Mindfulness is something that we discovered this year.  After trying it, we see the major benefits it could have on everyone but especially to parents as we are always on the go.
We caught up with Kasia from Mindful Workshop to tell us more about mindfulness and how Mindful Workshop intend to change the game.

Where you guys are from and what brought you to Barcelona
I was born in Warsaw and my partner Toby is from London where we lived before we moved to Barcelona. We wanted to live somewhere other than London for a while. Originally we planned to move to Cambodia but since our son Jasper was born, and we both started new businesses, our needs and goals have changed. We decided to stay in Europe so we can be close to the rest of the family who wanted to hang out with Jasper too but still wanted sun, sea and outdoor lifestyle. We were looking for a vibrant, international and culturally alive city, with an active music and production industry. Barcelona ticks all of those boxes; it is a perfect mix of nature and city.

For those that are unaware, what is mindfulness and how can it potentially improve the quality of our daily lives
The best way to explain it is as exercise for your mind. It's a way of looking after your mental and emotional wellbeing. We are used to looking after our bodies, we are getting better at exercising regularly, eating well, and getting enough sleep. Things like brushing our teeth, using face and hand cream are totally natural, yet we expect our mind to function well without any looking after. Mindfulness is that mental hygiene, which helps us deal with anger, anxiety, stress, burnout, negativity, mood swings and even depression. It's a daily routine that allows our mind to stay healthy.

What's your background and how did you discover mindfulness and decide to get into it professionally?
My background is in musical theatre and TV production. I spent years in casting rooms and on film sets. 13 years ago I discovered yoga, which really changed my life for the better, it helped me to stay sane and strong. I was finally learning to relax, to let go, to soften and open my heart, to be kinder to myself and to constantly better myself but without the pressure and expectation. Mindfulness was the next step from that, focusing purely on the mental practice and how we can rewire our brain to be the best version of ourselves fascinated me. Personal development is incredibly important in my life and I have explored many different approaches but mindfulness blew me away from the very first time I engaged with it.

On the personal level I got to the point in my life when I felt that I must do something meaningful. I always wanted to contribute in some way, to have a positive impact on the world. Discovering mindfulness has been so powerful for me that it made sense to share it with other people.

How do you personally implement mindfulness into your family and daily life.
I'm a passionate ambassador for meditation. Regular meditation is the easiest and most powerful way in which we can alter our mental state and in a long term create more happiness and inner peace. It is also a lot easier than many of us think. Another great way to feel less anxious and stressed is to change some of our daily tasks into mindful activities. This can be a morning shower, daily meal, reading a bedtime story or even the commute to work. Pick the activity and try to stay fully present in the moment, with your body but also with your mind. Breathing is a big one, deep breathing activates our parasympathetic nervous system and is a real self-regulator. If you can take 3 deep, mindful breaths twice per day, it will make a huge difference. Engaging with nature is also very important. The evidence for the benefits of nature on mental and physical health is overwhelming. Spending time in nature not only reduces blood pressure, anxiety, and increases happiness, but it reduces aggression, ADHD symptoms, improves pain control, the immune system…

Writing down 3 things we are grateful for each day has had a huge impact on my sense of inner peace and fulfilment. I recommend it to everyone I work with, it is so simple, and a real game changer. I could go on but this is a good start ☺

What are the challenges that you face in starting business here in Barcelona.
The biggest challenge wasn’t so much connected to Barcelona but to my lack of understanding of how business works in general. My expectations were a little unrealistic which meant dealing with disappointments, and struggling with self-belief, which are great life lessons ☺ Having no knowledge of the local market didn’t help. I am still getting my head around it to be honest but we were ready to take that risk the moment we decided to move to Barcelona, we knew it wouldn’t always be easy. Another huge challenge was the online marketing, which any coaching business depends on. This meant learning a whole new landscape I knew nothing about.

What's coming in 2019?
Oh I am so excited about 2019! We're going to have three main areas of focus. First is bringing more mindfulness to the world of business. I believe that creating more mindful leaders is the fastest way to change the world for the better. Second focus will be my One Month Mindful online course, which is perfect for all those who want to start their mindfulness journey. It is affordable, you can do it from the comfort of the home, and one month is enough to create tangible changes. The third focus is my on-going collaboration with a fantastic yoga teacher and wellness coach – The Wellness Gypsy. We created a series of events called Reset & Connect and this year we will be organising an Urban Day Retreat in Barcelona on the 3rd of March and a weekend Wellness & Detox Retreat in June. I also can’t wait to keep working with the amazing 1 on 1 clients who have signed up to my Mindful Revolution programme. I feel so privileged to be able to support people who are ready to create the life they truly want and to tackle the challenges they are facing. Happiness and inner peace is within our reach; we can all become the best version of ourselves.

Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing the growth.
